The World Information Architecture Association (WIAA) is seeking a passionate and visionary co-president to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to make a significant impact on the global information architecture (IA) community.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for evolving the association, a deep interest in the theory and practice of information architecture, and a good understanding of its niche in the design world. The co-president position is a volunteer role with a two-year commitment, with the option to continue for another 2-year term.

Key Responsibilities

As a co-president of WIAA, you will be responsible for:

WIAA Strategy

  • Set the strategic direction of the association

  • Develop governance and sustainability plans for the association.

  • Keep mission current and vital — engage the community to determine needs and goals.

  • Carry out WIAA activities as needed to support the mission.

  • Ensure community and sponsor expectations are met.

  • Represent the association at conferences, workshops, and other events

  • Foster relationships with other professional organizations and communities

WIAA Board of Directors Leadership

  • Schedule and run Board of Directors Meetings

  • Schedule and run special project team meetings as needed

  • Appoint unelected Board members as needed.

  • Monitor progress with projects/actions; follow up with responsible contributors, including: Board of Directors Officers, Volunteers, Advisory Board Members

Qualifications

We are seeking someone with:

  • A deep understanding of information architecture and its role in the design world

  • Some experience organizing, speaking, or volunteering at community events

  • A commitment to open collaboration and community-building

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Working knowledge of English language, written and speaking required

  • Leadership and team management skills

Expected time and dedication: on average 8 hours a month or 2–3 hours a week

This is an officer-level position and is responsible for understanding the organizational bylaws and ensuring legal protection and compliance of the organization.
